Iceland a little-known country and that's good. Lovers of wilderness will not be disappointed; although the Troll Peninsula is more and more frequented by cross-country skiers. At the same time volcanic, polar and mythical, Iceland reserves many surprises for skiing as the weather is changeable and changeable but thus offering a variety of snow always good to ski. You will be transcended by the polar landscapes and the scenery, the black and icy water of the fjords contrasting with the white of the peaks that surround them.

Level required

This is a ski touring trip, you must be able to ski in all snow and all terrain downhill on slopes at 35 ° / 40 ° max, carry your backpack from 8 to 10kg, and walk for 3 to 4 hours consecutively over 1000m of elevation.
On skis, being able to move at a rate of 300 to 400m / h on elevation differences between 400 and 600 meters. The slopes are of moderate level (red slope), adapted to the average level of the group. Participants are asked to have a mastery of piste skiing, to know how to evolve in all snow and more particularly in powder.

General overview

The Troll Peninsula is located at the very North of Iceland, it is one of the most interesting regions for ski touring because there is a multitude of peaks between 600 and 1200m whose names are often harder to pronounce than to ski.
The relief is extremely rich in slightly steep corridor between 30 and 35 °, sometimes steeper but also valleys and panels leaving room for skiers wishing to draw beautiful arabesques above the Fjords.

Program

  • Day 1

    Reception at Akureyri airport (North Iceland), then flight to Akureyri.

     

     

  • Day 2

    Skiing in Dalvik Setting off on the slopes overlooking the fjord… With a hike of + 600 to 700m

     

     

  • Day 3

    Skiing in Olafsjordur
    Magnificent spot for immersion in the Icelandic mountains, a change of scenery guaranteed in the middle of the white desert by the ocean.
    Elevation +800 / 900m

     

     

  • Day 4

    Skiing in Hedinsfjordur
    Ski touring and big curve on splendid mountains.
    Elevation + 900 / 1100m

     

     

  • Day 5

    Godafoss and Myvatn
    “Relaxation” day to discover Icelandic landscapes, volcanism and hot baths to relax in the middle of your stay.
    Possibility of skiing at the end of the afternoon.

     

     

  • Day 6

    Skiing in Siglufjordur
    Last day of skiing above the Arctic Ocean, we take the opportunity to discover this historic fishing village!

     

     

  • Day 7

    Return to Reykjavik by plane, then flight to France.
