Hokkaidō is an island in northern Japan, near Siberia: January temperatures range from -12 ° C to -4 ° C, depending on altitude and latitude. Snowstorms brought by winds from Siberia are not uncommon and bring an exceptional and light powder, ideal for ski touring on Mount Yotei or Furano. It is not uncommon for snow depths to be several meters high.

Level required


This is a ski touring trip, you must be able to ski in all snow and all terrain downhill on slopes at 35 ° / 40 ° max, carry your backpack from 8 to 10kg, and walk for 3 to 4 hours consecutively over 1000m of elevation.
On skis, being able to move at a rate of 300 to 400m / h on elevation differences between 400 and 600 meters. The slopes are of moderate level (red slope), adapted to the average level of the group. Participants are asked to have a mastery of piste skiing, to know how to evolve in all snow and more particularly in powder.

Program

  • Day 1

    Depart France for Flight to Tokyo, then Sapporo New Chitose. Reception at Sapporo International Airport. Meet the guide. Transfer by minibus directly to the hotel or lodge

  • Day 2

    Niseko

    The largest ski resort in Japan, skiing & exploring powder snow in Japan with a local guide, warm-up and recovery on the program for this first day. Meeting with the locals and baths in the hot springs, but also security briefing and DVA research on the program.

  • Day 3

    Mount Yotei-Zan or Free- Rando around Niseko

    One of the most beautiful volcanoes in Japan, we will ski on its slopes and discover the sumptuous landscapes of Hokkaido Island, before going for a swim in the “Onsens”.

  • Day 4

    Rusutsu or Rando around Niseko

    About 1 hour from Niseko, another little gem for off-piste skiing. Characterized by the steep slope, a lot of snow and very few people … Rusutsu offers around twenty ski lifts and a fun terrain

  • Day 5

    Furanodake

    1/2 day car transfer. With more than 900 m of elevation gain, offers ski in the forest of exceptional quality, seal skins and “fats skis” ‘to trace in the combes and clearings of this fabulous spot

  • Day 6

    Tokashidake

    Located just in front of Furano, the Tokashidake volcano chain contains a magical forest which shelters an always excellent snow. At the end of the day we will bathe in the warm waters of the volcano

  • Day 7

    Asahidake

    With its 2200m altitude it is the highest volcano on the North Island: with a cable car we can climb it and admire its fumaroles. An incredible day combining skiing and volcanism

  • Day 8

    Tomamu Birch trees ideally spaced for a day of transient off-piste skiing

  • Day 9 et 10

    Back to Sapporo for 1 night before flying back to France
